Marbled Pottery
How it's done.....
Marbling pottery is a slow process. It starts with blending coloured stains into the clay body. The blending process is achieved by kneading the coloured clay together until all the colour is blended through it. I mix together a number of colours to achieve an interesting blend.
The next step is to wedge the pieces of coloured clay together to create a slab of coloured clay.
Marbling and blending
Next I wire off an amount of the coloured clay I need to throw a particular shape. Then I knead the clay together in my hands by folding over the wedge which begins to mix the colours together.
I do this until the desired amount of colour is blended or depending on the size of the piece of clay.
The bigger the piece the more marbling is required.
Throwing on the wheel
When the clay is marbled to my liking i throw the clay piece onto the pottery wheel ready to crate the shape of my choice.
